What is this thing, creativity? What do we mean by this word? To create – to create something that we want, is it not what we mean? To create something splendid, spectacular, original.
Yet there is another side to creativity, just like there is another side to life and to ourselves. There is what we are, and there is trauma, there is presence and there is fear, and there is pain.
What we are encompasses all. What we create encompasses all.
In seeing how we design everything, right now, in understanding how we organized that which we hate, which limits us, which causes us pain, as well as that which we love, which we are proud of, which we cherish, lies the freedom to create only what we wish to create.

Where do the limits live – in the world, in reality, or in what we are willing to see of the world?
Or is there no difference between those two?
Often I hear the argument “this is impossible, people will not want to do this”. “This” is usually something that is required in order to save the world, prevent global catastrophe, heal the Earth, change everything.
“It is impossible” someone will always say, and the conversation moves back from the inventive, creative realm to that which we know, to that which feels safe, to that which feels familiar. To that which “people will accept.”
Where is the limitation, I often wonder, where is the place of impossibility? Is it the people? But people are us, people are me – so is it me? Will I refuse a change that feels uncomfortable and scary? Why – because I can not imagine living life any other way that I do now? The limit is in my imagination then – that is a good news. If the limit is mine I can work with it, I can open it, I can transform it and outgrow it.
It is when I project this limit outside and say “such world is impossible, such reality is impossible” that I submit to the limitation that now is out of my hands.
The world will change in a dance of uniqueness. Your uniqueness. Your originality.
Do you know it? Are you present to it? Are you it?
Are you yourself?
What you are is bliss, happiness and unlimited creativity. Discover yourself within you and you will change your life. Discover yourself within and you will change the world.
“How are you doing?” I asked my friend once.
“Oh, I walk around the house and sing my pain soul out” she said, “I sing my pain away!”
How wonderful! I thought. How wonderful to sing when the spirit demands it, to dance when the body yearns for movement. How wonderful to prowl in the fields at dusk and wander through forest in the early morning.
“I am an animal” I always feel when I climb high up on the rocks in my favorite mountain valley. I am a wild thing that squats in the shade, that curls up in nooks for rest, that stretches luxuriantly in a sun, drinks from mountain brooks, wades across rushing river. I am an animal. Silent, present, wild.
Somewhere out there, I think then, there is a human world. A world where I exchange my dirty t-shirt for a fancy top and put my scratched feet into high heels. Somewhere out there, there is a world where I think, write, produce, do, make.
But here, here in the wilderness I am only another wild creature. Here I am an animal. Here I am home.
