Creating Reality
About a week ago a friend emailed me this story:
A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.
The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

Some years ago I sat at the steps of a monument in the Aushwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. It was a late winter afternoon, the camp is beautiful in winter now, quiet and peaceful, with the orderly raws of red-brick barracks and an endless panorama of chimneys – the only thing now left of the wooden buildings that were burned at the camp’s liberation. As I sat there alone, looking at the ruins of a crematorium, I felt a profound peace and calm. The war was over, I realized, there was no need to fight anymore, no need to defend, to struggle, to survive. Now it was time to enjoy, to relax, to live.

Last Friday I created the “United We Stand” image (below).
It took me through quite an adventure. It begun while I was lying on bed sometime around 5pm, staring at nothing in particular. The image showed up in my head, completed with the tag-line. I jumped up, run to my computer and got to work. About 5 hours later I had the image completed, an online store set up with all sorts of merchandise, and … I started wondering what it is I am doing? And why?

Despite appearances this is not a political agitation. This is an illustration to my latest post.
Sometime around yesterday afternoon I realized that I start getting tired of opinions. I am very interested in the coming election, I have my favorite that I agree with and would vote for if I could. I watch the debates, I read the news, I listen to what people have to say. I also get the feeling, more and more, of a pressure.
In all the articles I read, on all the political blogs dealing with the election, on all the websites supporting this side or that, the predominant message is always the same: we are right, they are wrong.
